The Year of the Wood Dragon

Teachings for the Tibetan New Year

Talk with Déwang Pamo and Traktung Dorje

Welcome to the year of the Wood Dragon!

This evening talk will explore this year’s teachings on Time in Transit - exploring Tibetan Astrology in terms of the perceptual dimension of Dzogchen and the practice of Living the View.
All Buddhist practice is about change, increasing our capacity for kindness and awareness. This view of astrology is therefore concerned with facilitating transformation rather than making predictions.

Each year is associated with one of 12 animals – mouse, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, bird, dog, boar - and one of 5 elements – water, wood, fire, earth, iron – all of which have particular qualities.
The significance of the astrological animals lies in the way in which each animal overcomes the distorted qualities of the animal of the previous year. Each animal has a ‘potency’ and a ‘frailty’ in terms of practice. Every animal is therefore presented in both distinguished and discreditable mode – alternating as the years pass and thus reflecting the manner in which the neuroses are transformed into the nondual wisdoms of the Buddha Families.

Come and find out what this year of the wood dragon has in store – if we are willing to practise and to change.
